My name is Jon Woodworth and my kids gave me the title of Sand Dad. I am a kid at heart,
and as such, love to play in the sand. My wife, Kristie "Sand Mom", joins me when our kids
allow. I have been doing sand sculpting 1991, though when I first started, I called it playing.
Now it's called sculpting, but it still feels like playing to me. Port Aransas, Texas holds special
meaning for me. Besides the memories of family outings and fishing tales, Port Aransas
beach is where one sunset evening in 1991, I proposed to my lovely wife, Kristie. Many  years
and 4 beautiful children later, we are still making memories right there on that same beach.

I began sculpting sand in the form of sand castles around the same time I was engaged to my
wife. While working together on a small sand castle theme, a Realtor took a picture of our
little project and used it on the cover of their listings magazine which definitely fueled the
sculpting fire.  I continued making different projects, each more elaborate and slightly more
abstract and mechanical in nature.  Then in 2002, a member of the Sand Fest organization
chanced by a small project I was working on and invited me to enter the Amateur Sculptors
Division. I went and won 2nd place.  I was hooked!  We were not able to attend the 2003 Sand
Fest, but I entered the Pro-Am Division in 2004 and won 1st place!  Wow!  I again entered the
Pro-Am Division in 2005 and again won 1st place.  I am looking forward to the years
competitions as a Master sculptor.

I enjoy the competition of sand sculpting and the people involved in the events are some of
the finest people you will ever meet, but still to this day, my first sand love is making the
random sculpture on the beach and enjoying teaching the onlookers how to make their own.
